Export Scopes#
Choose the scope of your export to include exactly the content you need.
Overview#
Export Pro offers three export scopes:
| Scope | Description | Output |
|---|---|---|
| Current Page Only | Export only the current page | Single file |
| Include Child Pages | Export current page and all descendants | ZIP with hierarchy |
| Entire Space | Export all pages in the space | ZIP archive |
Current Page Only#
The simplest export option - exports just the page you’re viewing.
Behavior#
- Exports a single file in your selected format(s)
- Direct download (no ZIP) for single format
- ZIP archive when multiple formats selected
- Fastest export option
When to Use#
- Quick single-page exports
- Sharing a specific document
- Testing export settings
Include Child Pages#
Exports the current page along with all its child and descendant pages, preserving the page hierarchy.
Behavior#
- Recursively discovers all child pages
- Preserves folder structure in export
- Pages organized in nested directories matching Confluence hierarchy
- Discovery phase shows progress as pages are found
Output Structure#
export/
├── Parent Page.md
├── Parent Page/
│ ├── Child Page 1.md
│ ├── Child Page 2.md
│ └── Child Page 2/
│ └── Grandchild Page.mdOptions#
- Export as Single File - Combine all pages into one document instead of separate files
- Include Frontmatter - Add metadata to each page
When to Use#
- Exporting documentation sections
- Backing up project areas
- Creating offline documentation packages
Entire Space#
Exports all pages within the current Confluence space.
Behavior#
- Paginates through all space pages (250 per batch)
- Exports as a flat list (no hierarchy)
- Handles large spaces efficiently with streaming
- Discovery phase may take time for large spaces
Output Structure#
export/
├── Page A.md
├── Page B.md
├── Page C.md
└── ...File Naming#
- Filenames are sanitized to remove unsafe characters
- Duplicate names get numeric suffixes:
page.md,page-2.md - Spaces and safe special characters are preserved
When to Use#
- Complete space backups
- Space migrations
- Documentation archives
- Content auditing
Supported Content Types#
| Content Type | Exportable | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Page | Yes | Standard Confluence pages |
| Blog post | Yes | Blog posts within the space |
| Folder | Traversed | Folders are traversed for children only |
| Whiteboard | No | No text content to export |
| Database | No | Not exportable |

Discovery Phase#
For Child Pages and Entire Space exports, Export Pro first discovers all pages to export:
Progress Indicators#
- Page count updates in real-time
- Pagination progress for space exports
- Tree traversal progress for child exports
What Happens#
- Child Pages: Recursive API calls to find all descendants
- Entire Space: Paginated API calls (250 pages per request)
- Progress shown in the Export Pro dialog
- Export phase begins after discovery completes
Performance Considerations#
Small Exports (< 50 pages)#
- Fast discovery and export
- Suitable for any scope
Medium Exports (50-500 pages)#
- Discovery may take 10-30 seconds
- Real-time progress tracking helps monitor
- Consider using Child Pages scope if possible
Large Exports (500+ pages)#
- Discovery can take several minutes
- Streaming download prevents memory issues
- Can abort at any time by closing the dialog
- Metrics chart shows real-time throughput
